SVBC is a family of Christians who love God and love people.
Our mission is to spread the gospel in our community and in our world.
Pastor Colt Goodman accepted Christ at the age of 60 and has been married for 25 years to his lovely wife, Donna. They made the move to our humble town of Sandy Valley in 2003. In February of 2018 they came to Sandy Valley Baptist Church and have served our church ever since. Later, in October of 2020, Colt received his license to preach the gospel as our Assistant Pastor. In June of 2024, Colt became the Lead Pastor of our beloved church. Donna also serves and has been a part of our church board.
In addition to sharing the gospel, Colt has been coaching football for 40 years for both college and high school. From 1973 thru 1983, Colt competed as a professional skier. Then from 1984 thru 1997, he was the Tournament Director of the The Pro Ski Tour for both the men’s and women’s categories. Colt has also been a member of the Screen Actors Guild since 1996.
Pastor Colt and Donna have been longtime residents of our community and members of our church. They have loving, compassionate hearts and a desire for everyone to have an opportunity to hear and receive the gospel of Jesus Christ. We are very happy to have them lead our little church.
Our church was founded and started by our former pastor, Tom Roatch. We began in August of 1997, when Tom felt the Lord’s calling to plant a church in Sandy Valley, Nevada. For seven months Tom flew in on the weekends into Las Vegas from Texas and began to visit the people of Sandy Valley by going door to door from one end of town to the other. In the early summer of 1998, Tom, his wife Rebecca, and their five children made the move to Sandy Valley. They lived in a small single wide trailer and held their first church services at the Community Center and in the homes of members within the valley. Eventually our permanent location and meeting spot on Shawnee and Gold was purchased and it is where our church currently meets today. After four years, Pastor Tom and his family moved on to plant and work in other churches where the Lord has called him. He is currently pastoring two churches in West Virginia and continues to travel as the Lord directs him.
